What are the different types of masonry used in building projects? How masonry is considered
preparing estimate?

The following are the different types of masonry in building projects:

1. Brick masonry in mud mortar.
2. Brick masonry in cement mortar.
3. Brick masonry in lime mortar.
4. Brick masonry in arches in lime or cement mortar.

Masonry of different types is taken out under separate items. It is calculated in cu m i.e., LxBxH
and paid @per cu m. Brick masonry in foundation and plinth should be worked out under one item
and brick masonry in superstructure, (i.e., masonry from floor level up to top of parapet) is
then deductions are made as under:

calculated under a separate item. In taking out quantities all the walls are measured as solid and

a. Openings of doors, windows, clerestory windows, almirahs and varandah openings.
b. Lintels or arches over doors, windows, alhmirahs and varandah openings.
c. Brick masonry in cement or lime mortar, i.e., Jambs of doors, windows, c- windows, sills
of windows and e- window and back of almirahs. This deduction is only made in case if
the masonry of superstructure is mud masonry, otherwise only first and second deductions are made in all other type of masonry in cement or lime mortar.
